Internal Error -6001 (Scrivener 2)

It has come to our attention that some users are receiving the following error upon trying to activate their copy of Scrivener 2:

Serial number confirmation failed with internal error: -6001

Scrivener was unable to confirm the serial number because of an internal error in the eSellerate frameworks. This is usually caused by a minor permissions conflict on the computer.

This is because our old e-commerce provider, eSellerate, went out of business several years ago. Scrivener 2 is therefore attempting to contact a licensing server which no longer exists.

As a result, we have removed the activation requirement in Scrivener 2.9 for users running Mac OS X 10.9 to 10.11. You can download Scrivener 2.9 from our Legacy Downloads page.

Users running macOS 10.12 to 10.13 can download and activate Scrivener 2.9 with an existing Scrivener 2 license. Alternatively, you can upgrade to Scrivener 3 at a discounted rate.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a solution to this error for users running Mac OS X 10.8 or older, or who are using a PowerPC Mac.
