As you probably well know, there is a lot of drafting, editing and revision involved in churning out a good piece of writing. Scrivener has a few features that are useful for keeping track of different "versions" of a project, so you can watch the evolution of your work while keeping old drafts and ideas handy. The § symbol next to the features listed below marks their section number in the user manual (available under Scrivener's Help menu), in case you'd like more guidance on how to use them.

Built-In Templates

On a Mac, a Scrivener project is saved in the form of a "package file". A package file appears as a single file in your Finder, but is actually a folder containing the many sub-folders and files which make up your project.

To check that you can install Scrivener or Scapple on another Mac without purchasing an additional licence, please review the terms of the End User Licence Agreement. If you purchased from Apple's Mac App Store, you will need to review their EULA. Our licences are only valid for a single platform, so if you have a licence for the Mac version, it cannot be used to install Scrivener on a Windows computer.

Keeping your work secure and backed up is one of the most important things you can do, as a writer, second to the writing itself.

When you go to Compile a project on Scrivener for iOS, you can customise the appearance and formatting of the final document by choosing a Format. To view them, tap the Appearance button, toward the top the main compile dialogue.

Once Dropbox is installed on your computer it will create a folder on your hard disk, which will then sync to your Dropbox account. If you want to share a Scrivener project then it has to be stored that folder. As you work on the project, Scrivener will save the files you change on your local hard drive, these will then be automatically uploaded to Dropbox and then downloaded to the other computers using that Dropbox account.

Here are some quick things to check if you encounter syncing issues on the iOS version of Scrivener.

If applicable, the macOS version number will be printed before the bug title, such as the following, "[10.13]", which means this bug should only appear in macOS 10.13 "High Sierra", or "[10.12.4+]" which would indicate any version since Mac OS X 10.12.4 "Sierra".
