<p>I've used it for most of today. I converted a scientific paper
project (~100MB containing illustrator and PNG figures, around 20
PDFs, some web archives) and then used that without any issues!!!
I've also started a new project, dumping in about 300MB of PDFs and
data into research. I've compiled to MMD without issue.</p>
<p>No crashes. No feature roadblocks. Everything is faster and
smoother. The new preferences is so well designed, much more
logical!!! Compile had me stumped at first, then realised how
elegant the new Section Layouts system is. sections can be based on
level, but now we can have named section layouts (i.e. for Abstract
or References). How cool is that!?</p>
<p>There are some really nice new features not even in the
"changelog" in the email. For example there is a snapshots manager;
though where is my compile-from-snapshot wishlist feature!?!?
:-P</p>
<p>The only weird glitch I found was with the new vertical layout
setting. I don't really understand the need of the Copyholder
(vertical spilt as well as horizontal), but it is there for a good
reason I'm sure... I use MMD so can't comment so much on the new
styles system, but it is very familiar and consistent with the
previous formatting presets (though I'd prefer Styles was a
side-panel like in Word/LibreOffice/Pages).</p>
<p>I've been an internal beta tester for a number of software
projects over the years, and I can't believe how high the quality
is of Scrivener 3 on first outing is (iOS Scrivener was the same).
Congratulations L&L!</p>
<p>Can't wait for Ioa's (epic to be sure) V3 manual.</p></div>iandoltag:scrivener.tenderapp.com,2011-11-17:Comment/413058452016-11-25T11:05:22Z2016-11-25T11:05:58ZPraise for Scrivener 3.0<div><p>Oh, I think the new menu structure is a big improvement, Insert
and Navigate are much more logical, and getting rid of bizarre
catch-alls like Format > Options which contained settings that
were unrelated to formatting (like Show titles in Scrivenings,
which is now where it should be in View)...

about the improved Custom Metadata features. I'm still working my
way through the What's New tutorial, but I really do like the
reorganization of settings and menus (though I've always made heavy
use of Help->Search to find menu items).</p>
<p>Can't wait to get started on a project I've put off until styles
and drop-down Cust. Metadata features were available!</p></div>rdaletag:scrivener.tenderapp.com,2011-11-17:Comment/413058452016-11-25T19:44:38Z2016-11-25T19:44:39ZPraise for Scrivener 3.0<div><p>Keith and team, I'm still exploring, but impressed.</p>
<p>Still that familiar Scrivener style to it, but great menu
system, much improved Preferences and while I have yet to do a
compile, that looks great as well.</p>
<p>Kudos. Following iOS Scrivener with this enhanced version is
impressive. I can only imagine the many long days.</p>
<p>Take the weekend off!</p></div>amcmotag:scrivener.tenderapp.com,2011-11-17:Comment/413058452016-11-28T14:04:57Z2016-11-28T14:04:57ZPraise for Scrivener 3.0<div><p>I really appreciate the little enhancements, like the compile

It's made it much easier for me to experiment with RTF/DOC-only

wreck, destroy, this beta (2.9.5). If this was an arm wrestle the
Scrivener 3 team would have won 'hands down'.<br>
I've added templates, deleted templates, added a film script, a
novel and an academic thesis. All have been silky smooth. Perfect.
I'm adapting a feature film script to a novel using the vertical
split - it's too easy. So many thoughtful little enhancements now
it is a joy to use - sharper, cleaner, more intuitive, more
intelligent than ever before - and what was before this beta was
brilliant.<br>
Only two things come to mind - (1) I had to get my bearings when I
first opened it - perhaps a VERY short three step visual guide to
setting up might go down well with new users. I use DropBox to
store and do my current work and I had to use two of my three brain
cells to set it up. Still got a strong desire to open it to the
Apple iCloud drive account I have. (2) It might also be an idea to
add a new template set to Blank, Fiction, Non-Fiction etc, called
Academic. This would help many academic users to quickly and
unambiguously go right to their area of interest rather than having
to faff about in the non-fiction template set.<br>
Wonderful - now all you need is a glowing endorsement from JK
Rowling!</p></div>psmahertag:scrivener.tenderapp.com,2011-11-17:Comment/413058452016-12-01T00:14:45Z2016-12-01T00:14:45ZPraise for Scrivener 3.0<div><p>+1 on promoting Academic to its own stratified premier ivory

odd (perhaps Apple thinks their massive thumbnail sidebar is
better?). Acorn handles them just fine. Glad you're getting use out
of them, I do now and then prefer that for QR panels (especially on
a laptop), I just wish Apple made it easier to merge them as you
will, rather than the all or nothing approach. I guess you can
merge them all, then pull the ones you want separate out
individually.</p></div>Ioatag:scrivener.tenderapp.com,2011-11-17:Comment/413058452016-12-14T14:33:05Z2016-12-14T14:56:29ZPraise for Scrivener 3.0<div><p>Acorn, huh? Sigh. Preview has been a good-enough program for
years--I really didn't want to have to go 3rd party (and hope they
survive and stay current) to replace yet another app that I can't
even permanently trash. But if they start neglecting it now (and
this feels like neglect), I may have to find an alternative.</p>
<p>Are Acorn's annotations visible and properly placed when viewed
in Scrivener?</p></div>rdaletag:scrivener.tenderapp.com,2011-11-17:Comment/413058452016-12-14T15:15:55Z2016-12-14T15:15:55ZPraise for Scrivener 3.0<div><p>Acorn is a graphics editing program, so if you were thinking
along the<br>
lines of PDF reader replacement, it's not going to work for
that---more<br>
like a "I don't quite need all of Photoshop" program. Skim is the
main<br>
contender for PDF reader replacement, and it's still using its own
brand<br>
of annotations instead of the standards. There is a library for
working<br>
with them, which I believe DEVONthink uses, that fact didn't make
it<br>
into the investigation list before the feature freeze though.</p></div>Ioatag:scrivener.tenderapp.com,2011-11-17:Comment/413058452016-12-15T00:21:06Z2016-12-15T00:21:50ZPraise for Scrivener 3.0<div><p>PDF Expert for macOS offers a tabbed interface (and even

Cheers Keith.</p>
<p>Only thing I couldn't work out, because I didn't have time to experiment, was how to have a first page or more that didn't have the Video Audio text or the project title. Tried adding one to front matter, but ran out of time to get it right in the sections setting. Any tips welcome!</p>

<p>In Compile, Ctrl-click on “Documentary Script” and choose “Edit Format”. Under “Page Settings”, tick “Different header and footer on first pages” and choose a setting next to “Main body header and footer starts”. You can choose to have the main header start after front matter or on a specific page. Hope that’s not too late to help you!</p>
<p>And we really hope we’re nearing release soon! We’re just sorting out problems with the new website at the moment.</p>
<p>Apologies again for the late reply.</p>
