The plan is to have a beta of Windows 3.0 available to users at the same time Mac 3.0 goes on sale. This is to address two issues:

The file format of 3.0 is different, so for cross-platform users, it's imperative that there is a version of Scrivener available to Windows users that can use the 3.0 format.

Windows users need to see that they are not being left behind too much, and that their version 3.0 is on the way. Otherwise the Mac release will be drowned in the fiery lake of Windows users' ire.

The Windows duo are working hard to get a beta into some sort of shape, but it's going to be in a very early state compared to the Mac betas because they have been fighting Qt all the way, it seems.

All the best,

(I can imagine the howls if no Windows version is visibly on the horizon when 3.0 ships; deafening barely begins to describe it.)

S3 beta has been incredibly rock solid for most beta testers since its release, and I daily encounter questions on the main forums where the answer is: wait for S3 (with the new meme being: "is it January yet?"). I petition that switching to a public beta for Mac would at least allow eager Mac (and Mac + iOS) users to sample the creamy Ambrosia that is S3!!! Warning can be made for Windows users not to open S3 projects yet and we then only hope that QT problems find their solution.

iandoltag:scrivener.tenderapp.com,2011-11-17:Comment/424135422017-04-24T15:44:03Z2017-04-24T15:59:23ZScriv 3 project compatibility with Scrivener for Windows — plans?

I don't want a public beta for macOS. Fully public betas diminish enthusiasm for the final product, and many people don't distinguish between using a beta and a final product. We're waiting on a website update, too - we want to release with a fanfare, not dribble it in. (The same reason I have asked beta testers not to tell other users about Scrivener 3 betas...)

keith
