Please keep all feedback pertaining to the German translation of Scrivener's UI to this thread.

NOTE: Please try to explain all issues in English, as we only speak English ourselves, although we will be passing all feedback on to our translators.

Thanks!

HOW TO POST FEEDBACK

When posting suggestions for changing translations, I would be grateful if you could do it in this format from now on:

++ Place in Interface

"Current Translation" = "Suggestion"

"Another Translation" = "Another Suggestion"

For instance:

++ Main Menu:

"Navigation" = "Blah Blah"

"Outliner Options" = "Blah blah"

++ Inspector:

"Comments" = "Better Word"

++ Compile:

"Compile" = "Suggestion"

And so on. This will allow me to copy your suggestions straight into my new updating tools with very little editing and so ensure they are applied. If you would rather send me a file with all the suggestions, please just use the above format and put it into a plain text file. Thanks!

    I think "Backup" for backup is fine. "Sicherung" is a more "german" translation, but backup might even be easier to understand.

    Text vanishing at the marked point.
    Also it's "Import" but "Exportieren", should be either also "Importieren" or also "Export".
    "Importierte Plaintextdateien verwenden Schriftart:" I was confused by that one. It should be "Importierte Plaintextdateien verwenden folgende Schriftart" or "Schriftart für importierte Plaintextdateien:"

    "Author information" = missing translation

    I think the best way for the translation issues is to wait for the next version of the Beta.

    I've just sent out an email to all translation testers asking for help checking consistency with the translations used in other Apple applications. This involves filling in this file and returning it to me at beta AT literatureandlatte DOT com:

    http://www.literatureandlatte.com/dlbeta/TranslationChecks.zip

    I'll give anyone who is able to do that a free copy of Scrivener 3 (although there are some on here who will be getting a free copy anyway because of the great feedback you've already given!). It will be a bit of a pain to fill in, because it involves trawling through menus of Apple apps and writing out the names of menu items, but I'm hoping that it will allow me to make our translations much more consistent.

    We will be going through all the feedback here, too, and do appreciate it.

    Thanks!
    Keith

    Hi Keith,

    Please find the complete list with all translated menu items as picked from the different apps in the ZIP file, attached.
    There was only one single item I could not find … which I have marked in the textfile.

    Hope this helps.

    Mit freundlichem Gruss,
    Thomas Rabenstein

    Thomas, ther isn’t “Automatically Resize” in Italian Preview too. However, if you double-click in a .pdf opened in Safari, it should appear a menu where you can find that item, translated in your language

    With setting up my new machine I also had to load kindlegen again. This is where I found the following.

    First of all, I didn't have to install kindlegen as the instructions within the compile window asked me to. I could just choose kindlegen from my download folder or wherever I copied the unzipped kindlegen folder to, though I don't know if this is true for everyone.
    However as we are talking about the translation here, this ist what I actually wanted to report:

    The Dialogue in compile asks me to click on choose, to tell Scrivener where to find kindlegen "Klicken Sie nach der Installation von KindleGen auf "WÄHLEN...", um Scrivener den Ablageort mitzuteilen.

    The certain button though says "BENUTZERDEFINIERT", which could confuse some.

    That`s all. Thanks.

    Many thanks for all the feedback so far. I have incorporated all suggestions into the next beta. I've also asked the translators to go over the earlier suggestions to make sure they were all incorporated, too.
