Translation Feedback - German
Please keep all feedback pertaining to the German translation of Scrivener's UI to this thread.
NOTE: Please try to explain all issues in English, as we only speak English ourselves, although we will be passing all feedback on to our translators.
Thanks!
HOW TO POST FEEDBACK
When posting suggestions for changing translations, I would be grateful if you could do it in this format from now on:
++ Place in Interface
"Current Translation" = "Suggestion"
"Another Translation" = "Another Suggestion"
For instance:
++ Main Menu:
"Navigation" = "Blah Blah"
"Outliner Options" = "Blah blah"
++ Inspector:
"Comments" = "Better Word"
++ Compile:
"Compile" = "Suggestion"
And so on. This will allow me to copy your suggestions straight into my new updating tools with very little editing and so ensure they are applied. If you would rather send me a file with all the suggestions, please just use the above format and put it into a plain text file. Thanks!

"Pause" means "a break", not a good fit. Since you also gather other format options under that menu topic I'd rather call it "Sonderzeichen" (Special formats).

Hi Keith,
Yes, I am using the lates beta from today.
I was overwriting the previous one with the latest download.

I too am on the latest beta. It seems like a restart of my mac was due to show the correct translation. This is a behaviour that I don`t understand und did not expect.
I'm very sorry for all the confusion I made and therefore that's it for me being beta tester.
Thx and sorry.

Menu [Darstellung] -> [Outliner Options]
Should read in German: "Outliner Optionen"
36 Posted by Thomas Rabenste... on Sep 29, 2017 @ 01:58 PM
Menu [Navigieren] -> [Inspizieren]
I guess it should better read "Inspektor" or "Im Inspektor anzeigen"

Yes, I'm on the latest beta.

Apologies, I didn't mean for anyone to apologise! I appreciate all the feedback. I don't really understand why a restart was necessary, either - it shouldn't be. I would try completely deleting Scrivener, reinstalling and then logging back out and back in just to be completely sure - although this shouldn't be necessary... Very odd.
Thanks!

Hi Keith,
I have posted a couple of topics already. Do you see a deviation from what you would expect on the current beta?
Cheers,
Thomas

Okay, just to be sure: I deleted Scrivener, restart my system, reinstall Scrivener and ... nothing changes. Translation is the same as before.

Thomas - looking at your screenshots and at my copy, it looks as though all the ones you have reported are indeed issues. They are things that have changed in Scrivener very recently (for instance, I changed "Outliner Columns" to "Outliner Options" since the last beta, and that hasn't been updated in the translation yet).
From what I can see, the weirdness relates only to ECJ's install. My guess is that the install didn't work properly and that some old files got merged somehow (that happens on rare occasions), because some of his screenshots showed a mixture of new translations and stuff that is translated but wasn't in his Preferences panel. ECJ - hopefully you have that fixed now that you have reinstalled. If your Preferences panel looks like the screenshot I posted, all should be good and anything else you find should be a problem that needs fixing.
Thanks!

Thomas - I’m sorry to hear you are disappointed. The translators had access to the feedback threads, and as far as I knew, they were using them, so I will definitely take this up with them. There should only be a handful of phrases in English - phrases that have changed since the last beta or been added recently. That is not the translators’ fault. In other areas it seems that their tools have caused certain problems. For instance, they have translated “Preferences…”, but the strings they returned use three periods in the key rather than an ellipsis, which means Apple’s tools fail to incorporate the translation. I’ll point that out.
Also, could you list five or six suggestions that have been ignored so that I can bring this up with the translators?
sascha - “Backup in…” seems to be the translators’s translation of “Back Up to…” “Preferences…” is caused by the issue I mention above.
ECJ - could you please go through now that you have updated and got things fixed, and delete any screenshots or reports that are no longer applicable so we don’t confuse things for the translators, thanks?
Many thanks,
Keith

Toolbar: Search panel - missing translation:
"START HERE" should be "Suchbegriff eingeben" or something similar
44 Posted by ECJ on Sep 29, 2017 @ 04:49 PM
Unfortunately I can't delete anything. I can only edit text, but no Screenshot. I can't even delete my posts as a whole.
45 Posted by keith on Sep 29, 2017 @ 04:57 PM
screech - "START HERE" is a document title, so it should not be translated (and cannot be). It's showing the title of the first document in the tutorial.
ECJ - ah, that's annoying, sorry about that.
Thomas: I've just had a look through the old feedback thread, and it does seem that the translator has fixed a lot of typos that were pointed out there and take some on board. Could some of it be down to a disagreement over the best term. For instance, you suggested:
[Bearbeiten] -> »Transformierungen« Change it to: »Umwandeln«
But it seems that Pages uses Transformationen, which we should therefore really be using, because we really want to make the translations conform to what is common in other apps, especially Apple apps.
Thanks and all the best,
Keith

Ah, all right - now I got it :)

Argh, auto-correct, I typed "creech", honest. :)
48 Posted by creech on Sep 29, 2017 @ 05:21 PM
I don't know if it is wrong, but:
Customize Toolbar -> "Unsichtbare" should be/could be "Formattierungssymbole" ("formatting symbols" - in the english version it is called "invisibles" indeed, but I don't know, if any German will know, what "Unsichtbare" means - only the symbol gives a hint what is meant)

50 Posted by creech on Sep 29, 2017 @ 05:25 PM
Orthographic mistake:
Customize Toolbar -> "Jetzt Backup erstellten" should be "Jetzt Backup erstellen"
51 Posted by creech on Sep 29, 2017 @ 05:30 PM
Inconsistency:
Customize Toolbar -> "Tiefgestellt" and "Hochstellen" - either it's "Tiefgestellt"and "Hochgestellt" or (better) "Tiefstellen" and "Hochstellen"
52 Posted by Thomas Rabenste... on Sep 29, 2017 @ 05:34 PM
Hi Keith,
There are indeed often different ways to describe the same thing and I do understand if the best term is used.
»Transformationen« is fine and you are right.
To be consistent to other Mac Apps it’s the right way to go.
Greetings,
Thomas
